The Greater Holyoke YMCA is a proud partner and supporter of the Holyoke Early Literacy Initiative (HELI) and is working collaboratively with the Holyoke Public Schools, community organizations and parents to improve 3rd grade reading proficiency for all of Holyoke’s children.
The Holyoke Early Literacy Initiative (HELI) is a comprehensive, city-wide initiative designed to facilitate rapid and sustained improvement in early literacy as measured by the 3rd grade ELA MCAS. HELI engages schools, community organizations and families in a variety of ways to address the literacy crisis in Holyoke. Each constituency is being asked to not only do things differently now, but to make explicit commitments around changes in practice.
As a HELI Partner the Greater Holyoke YMCA is committed to:
Parents are essential to the development of their child’s early literacy skills. We invite you to join other parents across the city who have made the commitment to support their child’s early literacy development by becoming a HELI parent. HELI parents commit to the following:
The HELI Parent Commitment Forms can be found at the Member Service desk, Childwatch, Afterschool or by clicking here. Complete the form and turn it in to the Member Service desk.
HELI has developed “On Track for Literacy” indicators for children birth to 3rd grade. These indicators are a resource for parents and the community. Click on the links below to access the indicators. “On Track for Literacy” indicators can be found in our Childwatch, as well as our Afterschool program. Please see below for “On Track Literacy” indicators for children of different ages (English and Spanish):
